Sabrina Rannala

Project Lead

A series of photographs and interviews highlighting individuals and groups in Nova Scotia that passionate about the ocean.

Project Description

Saltwater Stories is a photography project that highlights Nova Scotians that are passionate about protecting the ocean and our waterways.
I aim to capture a wide range of initiatives, from shoreline cleanups to art exhibits to citizen science projects and more, to inspire community members to use their skills and lived experiences to get involved in ocean conservation in their own way. The goal of this project is to use the power of community, collaboration, and local action to help combat eco-anxiety by creating connections between people in the HRM who share a deep passion for the ocean.

What was your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge was working within the time constraints of the program as that meant I would only be able to highlight initiatives over the winter months, and so I’m excited that I’ll be continuing this project as an Ocean Bridge Alumni!

What was your most valuable takeaway?

My most valuable takeaway is that there are boundless opportunities to get involved in environmental conservation and the ocean sector. I’ve been so inspired by the people I’ve met through Ocean Bridge, and the ways they use their unique skills and passions to educate others about the ocean and inspire action.
