Location
The National Office Marine Conservation team works within the Conservation Programs Branch of the Protected Areas Establishment and Conservation Directorate. The Directorate provides functional leadership, policy direction, programming, and operational support related to the establishment and management of new national parks, national urban parks, and national marine conservation areas.
Placement Details
Participants work closely with Parks Canada’s National Marine Conservation unit to perform research and develop a database and report on the current cultivation, harvest and use of marine and aquatic plants for Indigenous, commercial, or recreational uses in Canada. In addition to literature and online searches, participants interview staff from the National Marine Conservation Areas (NMCAs) and National Parks (NPs)/National Park Reserves (NPRs) to gather information of current and potential future plant harvest in those areas. This includes Gwaii Haanas, Lake Superior, Fathom Five, Saguenay-St. Laurent and Tallurutiuo Imanga NMCAs, and Pacific Rim and Gulf Islands NPRs.
