Project Description

Pod Pals: A Young Learners’ Ocean Journey is a unique educational program crafted with love for elementary-aged children and their unique minds, aiming to foster awareness about marine mammals in a delightful and interactive manner. This program that I have created within the past year with Ocean Bridge is designed for children aged 4 to 6 and offers a hands-on exploration into the captivating marine life residing along the Canadian East Coast. More specifically, Pod Pals addresses the impact of climate change on marine ecosystems, highlighting the need for conservation, and teaching fun and applicable techniques to practice at home.

What was your biggest challenge?

The challenge I encountered was distilling a substantial amount of whale-related information into a format that would be both enjoyable and comprehensible for young children at the kindergarten level.

What was your most valuable takeaway?

One of the most valuable takeaways of teaching children about the ocean is instilling in them a sense of wonder, curiosity, and appreciation for the marine world. By educating them about the ocean’s importance, biodiversity, and conservation needs, we empower them to become stewards of the environment, fostering a deeper connection to nature and a desire to protect it for future generations.
