Outreach Events in conjunction with Honours Thesis

“This honours thesis will fill in gaps of knowledge on microplastic pollution on sandy beaches in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. By organizing outreach events with students and other interested citizens, they will learn about how our everyday life is part of creating not only this abstract “”global plastic pollution problem”” but they will see first hand that microplastic pollution is everywhere, even at their local beach in the “”pristine waters of British Columbia””. They will actively be engaged in the data collection by meeting at the beach, being trained in the method, then sifting the sand and collecting tiny microplastic pieces. As they are actively participating in microplastic research at the beach, they will deeply engage with the subject of plastic pollution and be more aware on how our lifestyle effects every aspect of our environment, particularly plastic pollution in the ocean.”

This project has been created in commemoration of the lives of all the victims of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, including two Ocean Bridge ambassadors, Danielle Moore and Micah Messent. We aspire to carry on their legacy and commitment to making the world a better place by creating long-lasting impacts with a firm commitment to driving positive change for the environment and our ocean.
