Exploring our Ocean virtual series

Our global ocean covers 70.8% percent of Earth’s surface. The vast amount of water contained within the ocean means it impacts weather, temperature, and the food supply of humans and other organisms. About half of the oxygen produced on Earth is by oceanic plankton. Despite this importance, 80 percent of the ocean has not been mapped and explored. We have better maps of the Moon and Mars!
The ocean is under threat from human influence including pollution from plastics and chemicals, overfishing and climate change. These activities lead to ocean acidification, sea level rise, and biodiversity loss. Despite the ocean’s vast size, we are changing it in ways that could impact our very existence on the planet.
Join us with our partner Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants, for an exciting series exploring and celebrating our ocean to kick off the new school year. Ocean Wise builds communities that take meaningful action to protect and restore our ocean. Together – with business leaders, researchers, community members, governments and ocean lovers around the world – we are monitoring and protecting whales, fighting climate change and restoring biodiversity, protecting and restoring fish stocks, innovating for a plastic free ocean, educating and empowering youth.
