Ocean Wise was recently notified by WordFly, a third-party service provider of email services, that they were the victim of a ransomware attack. WordFly assured us that there is no evidence to suggest that the data was misused. They have also confirmed that the data compromised is of low risk. If you would like to learn more about this incident, you can read WordFly’s statement.

We also would like to reassure you that the incident did not involve our own servers. Ocean Wise used WordFly solely as a communications platform. Although names and email addresses were included with the data, stakeholder financial data (including credit card details) were not compromised.

Since this incident, we have decided to partner with a different leading email provider, Mailchimp. We will continue to monitor the situation with WordFly and update you on any information that may affect you.

Out of abundance of caution, we wanted to inform you of this incident. Please note that Ocean Wise will never ask you for financial information through an email. All online donations and payments are directed to a secure website.

If you have any questions about this information, please contact us at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Lasse Gustavsson
