Financial Statements

As outlined in our Annual Reports Ocean Wise in in a period of transition. In May 2021, Ocean Wise began a new chapter after the sale of the Vancouver Aquarium to a third party. This marked a significant shift in our mission and operations, as we refocused entirely on ocean conservation initiatives both in Canada and globally.

Over the past three years, we’ve been rebuilding our back-office infrastructure—including finance, HR, technology, and fundraising operations—to support our expanded mission and ensure long-term sustainability. These strategic investments have been made using reserves from the aquarium sale, not from donor contributions.

The goal of these investments is to build a strong foundation for self-sustaining operations within 5 to 6 years, ensuring that we can deliver high-impact conservation work for the long term. In the interest of transparency and integrity we are sharing audited financial statements in full.

Ocean Wise is based in the traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We work across Turtle Island and beyond, supporting Indigenous peoples in their vital work on ocean conservation and biodiversity whenever possible or as we are invited to.
