Rain Garden Empowerment Package
Project Details
The Rain Garden Empowerment Package provides coastal community members with information about rain gardens and the resources to build their own.
Project Description
The Rain Garden Empowerment Package is an informational package made up of a sign, brochure, and webpage, made available to coastal community residents through the Gorge Waterway Nature House and delivered to local schools and community centres. With an emphasis on “empowerment,” the package’s goal will be to educate and inspire residents to create their own rain gardens. The package contains accessible language and recommendations on where and how to apply for local neighbourhood grants to lessen economic barriers to taking action.
This project has been created in commemoration of the lives of all the victims of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, including two Ocean Bridge ambassadors, Danielle Moore and Micah Messent. We aspire to carry on their legacy and commitment to making the world a better place by creating long-lasting impacts with a firm commitment to driving positive change for the environment and our ocean. We will never forget the light that Danielle and Micah brought to the world and will continue to keep them in our hearts. To learn more about these two amazing people, please visit: Honouring Danielle and Micah – Ocean Wise. This work is partially funded by the Commemoration Fund for Victims of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 Tragedy.
What was your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge for this project was its tight deadline which was managed with strict time management skills.
What was your most valuable takeaway?
A key takeaway from this project is the importance of not taking things too seriously. The design of the package is fun and whimsical while being informational and accessible, making it eye-catching to people of all ages. By adding fun doodles and branching out from stereotypical environmental designs, the package stands out from the rest and can inspire more action.
