The Ocean Wise Plastics Lab is a state-of-the-art research laboratory located in Vancouver, Canada. The Plastics Lab delivers world-class technical expertise on microplastic pollution through its dedicated and diverse team of research scientists.

Placement Details

This placement falls under Ocean Wise’s Plastics Initiative, which aims to turn the tide on ocean plastic by stopping harmful and unnecessary plastics from entering our ocean. The Ocean Wise Plastics Lab is a state-of-the-art research laboratory that delivers world-class technical expertise on microplastic pollution through its dedicated and diverse team of research scientists.

Participants in this placement are involved in various projects related to microplastic pollution in the ocean, exploring plastics sources such as microfibers in home laundry and urban sources, and learning the effect that microplastics have on ocean health. Specific projects include mechanical characterization of home laundry lint, controlled weathering of consumer textile fabrics, and more.
