Ocean Action Grant

What is the Ocean Action Grant?

The Ocean Action Grant is a microgrant that will provide youth across Canada with up to $5000 in funding to lead an individual or collaborative project that contributes to positive change for the environment.

Projects must address climate change, plastic & pollution, or overfishing either directly (ex. reducing reliance on single-use plastics, restoring habitats, improving access to sustainable seafood, etc.) or indirectly (ex. encouraging nature connectedness, promoting accessibility & inclusivity in environmental spaces, raising awareness of environmental issues, combating climate anxiety & eco-grief, etc.).

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Eligible projects must: 
    • Contribute to positive environmental change by addressing climate change, plastic & pollution, or biodiversity loss either directly (ex. reducing reliance on single-use plastics, restoring habitats, improving access to sustainable seafood, etc.) or indirectly (ex. encouraging nature connectedness, promoting accessibility & inclusivity in environmental spaces, raising awareness of environmental issues, combating climate anxiety & eco-grief, developing, and delivering education workshops and activities, etc.); 
    • Utilize the microgrant funds and submit a final or interim report
    • Be led by a youth or young professional aged 15 to 30 at the time of applying for the microgrant; and the lead youth must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee status in Canada. 

Program Expectations

Grantees are expected to:

  • Lead an individual or collaborative project that contributes to positive change for the environment either directly or indirectly (see examples in Eligibility above);
  • Keep all relevant receipts to submit an expense report and a final report prior to the program end date
  • Complete the expectations outline above by December 2026.
