Cary Choo

Project Lead

In EAA, my project is: handmade hardcover books about the interconnectedness of climate change and human health, exploring different topics (eg. air pollution, deforestation) and how it influences our wellbeing. Currently, I am researching, sorting, and compiling information for the book and prototyping different bookbinding methods. The goals of the book are: (1) to educate public about the various climate-related health impacts of climate change and the current mitigation strategies, (2) promote environmental connectedness, (3) and engage in environmental actions for planetary health.

Project Description

There will be 4 chapters, moving from global to regional scale: 1) intro of climate change, 2) climate change and health effects, 3) Canadian and Indigenous health due to climate change, and 4) current Canadian and Indigenous mitigation strategies.

An activity or two will be scattered in each of the topic sections and are short ideas that either help solidify a concept or encourage someone to engage in climate solutions/activism. It will not have step-by-step guides nor a list of materials and equipment, as the book is meant for readers of all ages and each reader will have a different interpretation of how to complete the activity to the best of their own individual skills. There will be an expandable folder in the inside back cover of the book to allow for reader to put photos of the progress/completed activity in it as a memento.

Once I have the book content finalized, I plan to print the pages, sew the books, and then distribute them at public libraries and schools.

This project has been created in commemoration of the lives of all the victims of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, including two Ocean Bridge ambassadors, Danielle Moore and Micah Messent. We aspire to carry on their legacy and commitment to making the world a better place by creating long-lasting impacts with a firm commitment to driving positive change for the environment and our ocean. We will never forget the light that Danielle and Micah brought to the world and will continue to keep them in our hearts. To learn more about these two amazing people, please visit: Honouring Danielle and Micah  – Ocean Wise. This work is partially funded by the Commemoration Fund for Victims of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 Tragedy.
