About the Pushing for a Sustainable Future With Climate Change Pedagogies Workshop

As our societies face the impacts of the current ecological crisis, youth are often left despondent, facing eco-anxiety, and unaware of how to best tackle the fight against climate change and pursue a sustainable future. One way to alleviate this is to educate youth inside and outside of the classroom on the interconnectedness of their lives, their choices, and the environment. And while the climate crisis affects every aspect of our society, there exists a misconception that climate and conservation education can only be addressed in science courses. This isn’t true!

With the climate change pedagogies developed by Ocean Wise education specialists and consultants from the University of Toronto, climate and conservation education can be addressed through the lens of various course curricula to appease eco-anxiety in youth. Through constructivist activities and active discussions, this workshop will explore the applicability and approaches of four core climate change pedagogies and their role in achieving the overarching objectives of environmental education. Participants will be provided with a workbook containing key information and reference tools to support the integration of these pedagogies in their classroom and will also gain access to Ocean Wise education kits.

Session will be in-person and available online.
