Shoreline Cleanup Event in Montreal with Ophélie!

Project Description

I hosted a Shoreline cleanup at Parc de la Promenade Bellerive in Montreal and educated friends and members of the community about waterway plastic pollution. In just under 2 hours, 12 volunteers picked up 9.5 kg of trash! I also held a “trash BINGO” to and gave out participation prizes, such as kayak day trips with Espace Navi!

What was your biggest challenge?

Getting folks excited to participate in a cleanup was difficult! But even though we only had 12 volunteers, they were all really happy to be there and lend a helping hand.

What was your most valuable takeaway?

Learned about plastic pollution and organization of events (publicity, etc).

Ocean Wise is based in the traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We work across Turtle Island and beyond, supporting Indigenous peoples in their vital work on ocean conservation and biodiversity whenever possible or as we are invited to.
