Introducing our panelists:

Saffron (Montreal, Quebec)

Saffron is creating a project on green urban designs with the goal of educating people about disastrous and often unknown consequences of our modern urban design whether it be from the destruction of forests to the impacts it has on our mental and physical health.

Saffron is a 17-year-old high school student who will be graduating with an International Baccalaureate Diploma as well as her high school diploma. She has always been passionate about our environment and has done a multitude of volunteer work including her participation in the Youth to Sea program with Ocean Wise. She loves finding easy to implement yet effective ways to help fight climate crisis.

Ulwiana (Vancouver, BC / Claremont, California)

Ulwiana founded Clothing Conscious in 2021, after becoming aware of fashion’s adverse environmental and social impacts (such as its contribution to ocean pollution). She ran clothing drives, swaps, art installations, and educational workshops at her school. Then, she widened her focus, sharing resources and offering mentorship to students across Canada. She spoke at conferences and gave a TED-X talk about sustainable innovation in the fashion industry. Ulwiana hopes to shift mindsets and behaviour. Learn more on her website.

Ulwiana is a first-year student at Claremont McKenna College passionate about taking environmental action to positively impact the mindsets of her generation and better the earth. She is studying Economics, Environmental Analysis, and Policy to learn how to shape legislation that improves both planetary health and human well-being. Besides Clothing Conscious, Ulwiana is the co-founder of ‘Announcements for Climate Hope’, a program spreading positive environmental news.
