Join Ocean Wise for our workshop Empowering Ocean Champions Through Climate Change Pedagogies
The theme for the IPMEN 2023 conference is Linking Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Ocean Literacy. The four IPMEN 2023 conference strands are:
Strand 1: Highlighting Pacific-wide examples of the links between TEK and Ocean Literacy with a focus on traditional ocean voyaging.
Strand 2: Highlighting Pacific-wide examples of the links between TEK and Ocean Literacy with a focus on tsunamis.
Strand 3: Refining and supporting work already done on establishing protocols for scientists and educators working with traditional communities.
Strand 4: Exemplary programs that link TEK to Ocean Literacy.
Our Ocean Wise workshop, Empowering Ocean Champions Through Climate Change Pedagogies, will address strand 4. With today’s youth being vulnerable to the feeling of eco-anxiety due to the impacts of the climate crisis, educators are expected to help youth despite the lack of reliable resources. Through climate action pedagogies, the synergy of meaningful TEK learning, and up to date and reliable ocean science can empower your students to become Ocean Champions. So, join Ocean Wise for a workshop filled with activities and discussions to learn about how you can integrate these climate action pedagogies in your course curriculum and gain access to our education resources. This workshop is led by Ocean Wise Educator Daphne Austin.
