Youth Water Advocates Initiative
Project Details
The YWAs Initiative aims to cultivate water stewards and future water leaders through activities like conducting stream studies, taking part in school presentations, and litter pick ups near water bodies.
Project Description
The Youth Water Advocates Initiative will bring together approximately 30 youth from the Credit Valley watershed to do a litter pickup and stream study at Fletcher’s Creek. The litter pickup supplies will be provided by Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) as in-kind contributions and the Ocean Action Grant will help fund the stream study at Fletcher’s Creek along with student registration and snack costs. This initiative will donate all stream study equipment to CVC after the event.
This project has been created in commemoration of the lives of all the victims of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, including two Ocean Bridge ambassadors, Danielle Moore and Micah Messent. We aspire to carry on their legacy and commitment to making the world a better place by creating long-lasting impacts with a firm commitment to driving positive change for the environment and our ocean. We will never forget the light that Danielle and Micah brought to the world and will continue to keep them in our hearts. To learn more about these two amazing people, please visit: Honouring Danielle and Micah – Ocean Wise. This work is partially funded by the Commemoration Fund for Victims of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 Tragedy.
What was your biggest challenge?
Going over budget. I communicated with the microgrants team and was luckily approved for going over-budget.
What was your most valuable takeaway?
There are organizations out there supporting youth led climate action and we can all make a change by engaging with them.
