Community gatherings, such as native plant walks and nature therapy walks were organised to connect people with one another and their natural surroundings.

Project Description

A mindfulness field journal was created to highlight native plants of from the south-west coast of BC. The journal included 25 native plants and 100 pages for journaling. The journaling pages included prompts to reflect on oneself, their natural surroundings and their community. Three native plant walks have been organised to introduce people to native plants in their local area. Four nature therapy walks led by a registered therapist have been organised to provide people a safe space to express their thoughts during a walk in a local green space.

The project opened a safe space for people discuss eco-anxiety and share knowledge on ocean conservation and land conservation. The nature therapy walks are taking place along the coast of Southern Vancouver Island allowing us to reflect on ocean wellbeing.

This project has been created in commemoration of the lives of all the victims of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, including two Ocean Bridge ambassadors, Danielle Moore and Micah Messent. We aspire to carry on their legacy and commitment to making the world a better place by creating long-lasting impacts with a firm commitment to driving positive change for the environment and our ocean. We will never forget the light that Danielle and Micah brought to the world and will continue to keep them in our hearts. To learn more about these two amazing people, please visit: Honouring Danielle and Micah  – Ocean Wise. This work is partially funded by the Commemoration Fund for Victims of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 Tragedy.

What was your biggest challenge?

A big challenge was expressing to printing companies what I need the physical journal to feel and look like. Finding a local printing company that is mindful of the environment.

What was your most valuable takeaway?

Connecting with people is crucial. It opens us to different perspectives and knowledge. Creating a safe space to share this knowledge is important.
