Life of a Pellet
Project Details
Life of a Pellet is a short stop-motion animation film made from pre-production plastic pellets and trash to tell the tale of this lesser known source of plastic pollution in lake Ontario as well as the types of trash traps in place by the U of T Trash Team.
Project Description
The idea for this short film came about through Operation Sweep the Creek 3.0 by U of T Trash Team. The lead PhD student was using LittaTraps to collect pre-production plastic pellets outside plastic related factories in Toronto. My own research was on microplastics in landfill leachate and as I was helping her count the trapped pellets, I felt weird about throwing the pellets in the garbage to end up in the landfill since they are not easily recyclable. So I cleaned and kept some to use for arts and craft projects.
Currently, the animation team is hard at work to bring this film alive and it is on track to be ready by September 2024. A Toronto screening will be happening to premiere the film in person before it is accessible to all on the internet. Follow @lifeofapellet on Instagram for event details coming soon!
This project has been created in commemoration of the lives of all the victims of Ethiopian
