Restorative actions preformed by volunteers from local communities in the fight agaisnt climate change.
Project Description
My action project was to work together with local, low-income communities to combat climate change through shoreline cleanups, education, and political outreach. Together, we have worked with volunteers from the community to help clean our shorelines and written letters to our MP to help make impact statements. In the following weeks, a community event that includes education, activities for youth, and a shoreline cleanup will be held to reach more people and to recount first-hand knowledge of the effects of climate change in local communities. Our goal is to create a cleaner environment that is safe for all.
What was your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge with this project was to make decisions on where to preform the shoreline cleanups. One shoreline or beach is not more important than another, but it was difficult to choose which community to help educate and clean.
What was your most valuable takeaway?
My most valuable takeaway was seeing how many people in each community wanted to contribute to a cleaner ocean and restore nature to its finest.
