Facilitate a supportive and collaborative environment by organizing workshops that encourage connecting with others, the environment, and ourselves.
Project Description
Focusing on providing individuals with the tools to help the environment while working on self-growth on themselves. Through an accessibility perspective, strive to promote mental health awareness, local conservation efforts, and environmental connections.
During the first event, we discussed what climate change anxiety is and how to cope with it. In the second event, we raised awareness about ocean health by conducting a cleanup activity and removing garbage and cigarette butts. In the last event, we planted 20 trees together. Planting trees is an effective way to combat climate change as they absorb and store greenhouse gases, regulate water levels, protect shorelines from storm surges and erosion, and even cool cities, and beyond that, is a mental health strategy to reduce stress and give youth an opportunity to affect change.
This project has been created in commemoration of the lives of all the victims of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, including two Ocean Bridge ambassadors, Danielle Moore and Micah Messent. We aspire to carry on their legacy and commitment to making the world a better place by creating long-lasting impacts with a firm commitment to driving positive change for the environment and our ocean. We will never forget the light that Danielle and Micah brought to the world and will continue to keep them in our hearts. What was your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge for me was communication. Trying to get ahold of my first organization was difficult because they would delay deadlines and not respond to my phone calls or emails. I came to a point where I had to decide to switch partners, and I did. My new partners were very supportive and willing to help make these projects happen.
What was your most valuable takeaway?
It’s truly inspiring to witness a community working together towards a common goal of supporting the environment. The dedication and hard work of each individual is remarkable and serves as a reminder that we can achieve great things when we work together.
